Man jailed for neighbour attack

A HENBURY man who admitted attacking his neighbour has been jailed for 15 months.

Michael Mullen was to face trial at Bristol Crown Court, but on Wednesday the 45-year-old, of Crow Lane, chose to plead guilty to unlawfully wounding Nicholas Fisher in November last year.

Jailing him, judge Carol Hagen told Mullen she accepted his remorse was genuine.

Mark Worsley, prosecuting, told the court there had been a confrontation involving the pair, who lived in adjacent first-floor flats.

He said Mullen called on his victim, whom he first punched before striking him on the arm using a piece of wood.

Mr Fisher suffered a broken nose, loosened tooth, bruise to his arm and had to have 12 staples to a three-inch wound to the back of his head following the attack.

Jason Taylor, mitigating, conceded that his client's criminal record for petty violence underlined that he was clearly a "nuisance to the local police".

He said however that his client had not gone armed to the incident and now wished to put it behind him and move on with his life.

Judge Hagen told Mullen: "You've had the good sense to plead guilty, albeit late in the day.

"You don't seek to evade responsibility and you've expressed remorse. Your history is by no means unblemished of violence and disorder.

"However I accept your remorse is genuine."
