Debt led to drugs crime

A DRUG dealer has been jailed for four years and four months after police found bags of heroin with his fingerprints on.

Police also discovered drug dealing paraphernalia and cutting agent when they searched a property often frequented by Joshua Jones, 32.

Jones, pictured, appeared at Bristol Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and possessing ecstasy and cannabis.

James Haskell, prosecuting, said police were called to Brook Road, Bristol, on July 28 last year after reports that a woman was being assaulted. As police arrived, Jones tried to cycle away but was stopped. They found two small bags of cannabis in his possession and a small bag of MDMA.

When they searched the home he often stayed at, they found two large piles of cash, along with bags of cocaine and heroin. Officers also found plastic wrapping, scales and cutting agent.

Jones' fingerprints were on the bags of heroin and cutting agent, which was hidden in a TV stand.

Mr Haskell said the money found at the address had been misplaced by the police and was the subject of an internal investigation. He told the court Jones, of no fixed address, had a previous conviction for possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply from 2005, when he was jailed for four years.

Jane Chamberlain, defending, said her client got into drugs to help pay the costs of the funeral of his younger brothers, killed in a car crash. He was forced to borrow the money from a drug dealer but when he was unable to repay the money, he was ordered by the dealer to take drugs, cut them up for sale and return them.
