'They come flying around corners'

THE health and safety policy seems to be neglected in the matter of elderly and disabled people. Pavements and footpaths have been hi-jacked and are being used as cycle paths.

Here in Yate, I take my wife in her wheelchair shopping but at great risk. I dare not change direction without looking behind to check if a 15 stone person at 15mph is not bearing down on us; they fly around blind corners giving no time to dodge.

I have seriously considered fitting a rear view mirror to the wheelchair. These remarks refer also to Yate Shopping Centre. We have condensed shopping trips to lessen the time spent dodging bicycles and causing distress to my wife. What is the law, if any, concerning cycling on pavements and shopping centres?

There is real fear on this subject amongst the frail and disabled. So it can be quite a hair-raising experience for people on foot in Yate.
